And the scrape of your stick against the gravel went tut tut tut. You walk with your shoulders hunched as the sweeping movements of your stick were periodically stopped time and time again by the sidewalk. This is your routine; the sidewalk is your reflex. It guides your path. But you stop, suddenly, yet surely. A van drives past as I stand directly across you. I stare at you, wondering if you know where you are despite the blankness that shrouds your view. Another car drives by before I walk across to your side of the road. You still stand there, hugging your stick. I realise you have lost your way amidst the dark. Yet, ignorance and oblivion envelope my soul and I continue with my journey. A nagging conscience tugs at my heartstrings and I feel the urge to help you find your way. But nobody these days care much about the lives of others and I follow suit. I don't pluck up the courage to help you. But maybe I was wrong.

As I walk away from you, a fine man comes to your aid. He holds your hand and helps you cross the street. I feel ashamed that I ignored your presence even as I stared at you. It was a simple act of kindness that I neglected. Clad in this blue uniform with years of moral and religious education ingrained in me, I feel ashamed.

How does it feel to be blind to all the colours of the world (in the true sense of the word)?

Is it often that you get lost in the huge expanse of darkness before you?
